June 12, 2017 Live from the road

Canberra, ACT

Reported by Prachar Stegemann

Today, being a Public Holiday Monday, was officially a rest day for our Peace Run team. Many of us ventured to a public race being staged by our hosts here in Canberra, the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team.

The Sri Chinmoy Half-Marathon, 5 Mile and 2 Mile races are staged annually around a one-mile loop in and around Telopea Park. The races started in cool mist, and ended in bright sunshine.

Several members of our Peace Run team volunteered in various capacities – Nurari and Altankhuu managed the main drinks station ...

Narantuya was our ever-cheerful and expert camera-girl ...

... while Gan-Erdene proved herself an adept pancake chef.

The team gave a brief presentation about this year’s Peace Run before the races commenced with a moment’s silence.

3 members of our team participated in the events – Abhinandan ran in the 5 mile race ...

... as did Kanyaka ...

... while Eniko ran in the 2 mile event.

Abhinandan even won a trophy, for coming 4th Male Under 50 in the 5 Miler!

We passed the Peace Torch around amongst some of the runners during the race.

Many more were delighted to hold the Torch after their run.

After a refreshing break in Canberra, the team is looking forward to “hitting the road” again tomorrow!

Torch carried by
Abhinandan Willis (Australia), Eniko Soron (Hungary), Kanyaka Arini (Indonesia).
