Reykir í Hrútafirði - Hólmavík

Reported by Natabara Rollosson, Salil Wilson 151.0 km

Today we headed into the western fjords, which reach out into the Atlantic towards Greenland.

Í dag lögðum við í hann til Vestfjarða.

The wind, rain and cold was fierce today. Adding on the uphill and gravel made us all laugh at the task at hand.

Ekki vantaði rokið, rigninguna og kuldann í dag. Þegar bætt er við að hlaupið var upp í móti á malarvegum, þá gátum við ekki annað en hlegið upp hátt.

At times within a fjord the clouds would open and the sun would break through.

Öðru hvoru skein sólin í gegn.

Vajin did his first run in 12k, then later did another 11k. He is training for the famous Laugavegur race in Iceland to be held on Saturday.

Vajin hljóp fyrst 12km og svo 11km. Hann er að æfa sig fyrir Laugavegshlaupið á laugardaginn.

The wind was powerful and sometimes felt like running in place. That blue thing flying off Natabara's head was his hat!

Vindurinn gat orðið svo kröftugur að það var engu líkara en að hlauparinn stæði í stað. Þetta bláa sem flaug af höfði Natabara er hatturinn hans.

Temperatures would often change.

Hitastigið var breytilegt.

Pierre got lucky and was quite warm.

Pierre fékk nokkra hlýja kafla.

Suren started of in the mountains and was quickly lost in the fog.

Suren hóf hlaup uppi á heiði og varð snemma hulinn í þoku.

Salil began with a solid tail wind.

Salil hóf hlaup með góðan meðvind.

Towards the end of the day we were getting fairly tired.

Undir lok dags voru menn orðnir nokkuð lúnir.

Some local passersby.

Umferðaröngþveiti.

Paved roads would turn into gravel roads

Það skiptist á malbikið og mölin.

Visibility was near nothing as we climbed altitude.

Vegurinn hækkaði og þokan þykknaði.

Photo journalism with style.

Dansandi ljósmyndari.

And this is what Pierre captured.

Og hér gefur að líta myndina.

Arriving in the enchanting town of Hólmavík.

Við komum til Hólmavíkur í lok dags.

Iceland is famous for sightings of trolls and elves.

Ísland er þekkt fyrir álfa og tröll.

In fact, the transportation department found an extremely large bolder in the way of a highway they were building. However the machinery kept malfunctioning and they could not work.

Þekkt dæmi eru af því að vegagerðin hefur ekki getað rutt tilteknum stórum klettum úr vegi vegna þess að vinnuvélarnar bregðast.

They consulted a clairvoyant and she said that the huge rock was the home of elves, and they did not want it disturbed.

Sjáendur hafa ráðlagt vegagerðinni að láta þessa steina í friði, því álfar búi þar.

When the highway construction was rerouted around the large rock, all the machines began working fine once again, and the highway was completed without any problems.

Og eftir að ákveðið hafði verið að leggja veginn framhjá steininum, þá byrjuðu vinnuvélarnar að virka á ný.

So now everyone coexists peacefully in Iceland.

Hamingjusöm sambúð manna og álfa!
