The Hon. Jean Augustine was presented with the Torch-Bearer Award in 2010 in Toronto, ON. She is the first Black Canadian woman to be elected to the Parliament of Canada as well as the first Black Canadian to occupy the Speaker's Chair in the Canadian House of Commons. She became Ontario's first Fairness Commissioner and established the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women's Empowerment.
