Today the Peace Run Team visited Rufus King Manor Museum and presented our Torch Bearer Award to a remarkable individual named Roy Fox.
Rufus King Manor is a stately house, but Roy Fox makes it a home.
What did we, the Peace Run Team, know of Rufus King (1755-1827), framer and signer of the United States Constitution, US Senator and vocal antislavery advocate throughout his life, who lived literally down the block in Jamaica, Queens on what was once 160 acres with his family for over three generations?
Well ask Roy Fox, live in caretaker, who met us seated casually on the front steps and led us to the expansive front lawn, under a perfect sky for a unique private tour.
Reading and expanding on his own researched “Tidbits of the Rufus King Legacy”, updated to be given as a gift to the team that day, Roy’s scholarship and dedication to the founding ideals of our country and Rufus King’s legacy soon become apparent. As historian, scholar, educator and once famous radio show host, he kept us spellbound and inspired sharing history with wit and humor.
Then, Roy ‘the” Fox putting all quips aside, accepted the Torch Bearer Award in a presentation led by Bhikshuni Weisbrot and given that special upliftment by Davidson Hepburn as he presented the medal.
We all smiled for a final group photo as Roy wore his gift of a Peace Run cap with delight!
Roy led us back to Abigail Waldron, Education and Program Coordinator, who gave us a private interior tour of the Mansion.
