Our gratitudes goes to the heroic runners from run3sg. Almost everyone who who signed up, turned up for the event despite weather being forecasted for heavy downpour. Only one male runner could not come due to a late night arrival flight from an overseas trip.
They were so inspired by the hisotry of this international event that they made it a point to show up no matter what.
During the opening ceremony, every runner had a chance to hold the peace torch and felt the significance of this event. They were so delighted to hold the torch because this is the first time in their lives to hold a flaming torch. Everyone was so smiley when their turn came.
In Dec 2002, when founder Sri Chinmoy came to Singapore for a 1 week visit, while he was staying at the Pan Pacific Hotel, every morning, he would come to this stretch of Marina Promenade for his morning exercise.
A tour group from China who happened to be in the same tourist spot can’t helped but wanted to have the opportunity to hold the peace torch and wished for goodwill and peace. Man fully dressed up as the monkey God and the lady in traditional chinese opera. They are from Fujian province of China.
Leading the way was Yuen Cheng Yong, our very own Singaporean ultramarathoner who auditioned for the 3100 race in 2025.
In 2015, when Singapore celebrated its 50th anniversay as an independant country, Cheng Yong and another ultramarathoner, Nghee Huat, ran 50km for 50 days around Singapore, totally 2500km.
After our event, Nirbhasa and Grahak presented the Torch Bearer Award to Cheng Yong for his inspirational feat. (His friend Nghee Huat could not join our event today because he is overseas.)
