Thank you to the Holiday Inn Express for providing complimentary rooms for the team. Your generosity allows the Peace Runners to continue along their way sharing the message of peace and friendship.
One women's team finishes their miles and sneaks in a little work over coffee! In Coffeyville, while waiting for our first meeting of the day.
Coffeyville is the home of the Dalton Defenders Museum. The museum is filled with history of courage, loss and resilience.
Smokey(Pete) stepped in to describe the rich history of the town and events around the famous Dalton Gang attempted bank robbery.
Also present at the DDM were Commissioner Mike Golden and his wife Jude, Ashley Tatman from the City of Coffeyville and other interested folks.
In 1892, the Dalton Gang attempted to rob two banks simultaneously. Their ill fated attempt ended in a historic rally by townspeople who stepped in to defend their town. In the end, Coffeyville came out victorious, goodness and resilience won the day.
The museum was filled with many small rooms of note, this room housed a collection from industry in and about Coffeyville over the years.
The land in and around Coffeyville was originally part of the Osage Nation and home to Black Dog, the seven foot tall Osage Chief.
Our next stop of the day is with our old friend and peace loving Boys and Girls Club director Griffin Walker, also known as Griff. The team was very excited to see him. Because the Peace Run route changed in 2014, we have not seen Griff since then. It was a very happy reunion.
And the team received such a warm welcome from the kids there at the Boys and Girls Club of Coffeyville.
So many of those present made artwork for peace that will join the 'America, Our Oneness Home' art project.
