Our day begins at Myrtle S. Finney Elementary School in San Diego.

A warm welcome is offered by the interim Principal.

Two new members of our international team are from Hungary, and the children have to guess where they are from.

The schools inspector enjoys the program.

Today the school is enjoying a '60's' theme, and some people have dressed for the occasion.

The Peace Run honours the teachers of Finney Elementary. Teachers play an important and often unrecognised role in creating Peace in this world.

The teachers, in their costumes, carry the torch in a run around the assembled audience.

Our next appointment is at the Sri Chinmoy Peace Garden on Adams Avenue.

This is a statue of Sri Chinmoy, the founder of the Peace Run.

This fourteen year old amateur boxer, who will soon be attending the Junior Boxing Olympics, leads us through the streets of San Diego towards Balboa Park.

Laurel Grinnel-Wilson accepts the Torch Bearer Award on behalf of the Center for World Music.

Sarah Davidson, Clean Border Water Now Manager, accepts the Torch Bearer Award on behalf of the Surfrider Foundation.

RiAmour Bell introduces Sofia Cuevas, a member of Paddle for Peace.

Mary M. McKenzie, Board President of the United Nations Association-USA San Diego chapter, receives a Certificate of Appreciation from the Peace Run team. Mary also received a Torch Bearer Award on behalf Julia Chambers, the youngest member of the Board.

Joe Mazares, President of the House of Pacific Relations, accepts the Torch Bearer award on behalf of Tom Hay Bauer of Scotland House (who could not be present). The Peace Run also gave Joe a Certificate of Appreciation for his help in co-ordinating this event.

Trisha Shaefer, owner of Liquid Eden Water Store, donated 50 gallons of healthy water to the team.

A tasty lunch has been supplied by Jyoti Bihanga restaurant.

Inside Balboa Park, there are various cottages, representing different countries. We stop at the House of Scotland and are greeted by a volunteer.

Here our Scottish runner, Dhavala, purchases cans of the traditional Scottish soda drink, Irn-Bru. Irn-Bru is known in Britain for its unique, tangy, citrusy, and fruity flavor from a secret recipe of 32 flavors. In Scotland the rumour goes that it is made from iron girders, but it actually contains a very small amount of iron.

Dhavala cannot quite believe it. Her first day on the American Peace Run and she happens upon Irn-Bru.

Our next appointment is at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park.

Makeda "Dread" Cheatom (center) is very well known in San Diego and further afield for her many accomplishments and decades of tireless community service. She is joined by her friends Kolita (left) and Berenice (right).

The torch flame is used to light some white sage for a blessing.

Finally, in the evening, the Peace Run team is invited to the Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga Center. Salil Wilson presents the Peace Run to the gathered audience.

The team introduce themselves and answer questions.

Everyone is invited to hold the flaming torch and offer their silent prayer for Peace.
