Digby - Saint John

Reported by Brahmata Michael 5.0 km

In the hotel lobby we met Jen Mitchell from America who was happy to hold the Peace Torch.

The first stop of the day was Church Point, a historic Acadian community. St. Mary’s Church, the largest wooden church in North America, was built in 1774.

Councillor Peter Scherer kindly came and welcomed us outside of the Digby Arena and we enjoyed conversation  with him.

Next, we took part in the Ocean Blue Fun Run which is a 4.2 kilometre multi-school run with five schools participating.

Debbie Haight is the organiser of this wonderful run, which happens annually! She kindly invited us to speak before the run started.

Grahak introduced the run, speaking about all of the small ways that we can make peace in our daily lives.

Councillor Scherer offered an inspiring "pep talk" to the children before starting their race.

He said; "Why are we talking about peace and running at the same time? There is something very meaningful about meditating on peace while you run. Running is something very peaceful... so while you run, don't think, just feel. Feel the sun on your skin, feel the wind in your hair, feel the ground under your feet."

Desi, the Digby Elementary School mascot was a lot of fun! The children cheered like crazy when Desi came out and started dancing around.

Juliette and Brooklynn held the torch together before marshalling for the race.

Angela finished the run with a very fast sprint!

Velvet Weir with her grandson Blaise Mitchell, who came sixth in the race!

Holding the torch after a great run.

D'Amari helped with the race, and made sure everyone went where they needed to go.

We met Tim, a teacher at Digby Elementary School, he spoke with sage wisdom about how we can build peace;

"Peace is a puzzle, all you need to do is put it together. Peace flows and runs through all of us."

Dragons and Peace Runners and Dolphins... oh my!
