It was a great thrill to reunite with our dear friend and long-time Peace Run supporter, Sujata, at our first ceremony of the day.
朝一の京都市役所での出発セレモニーに、長年ピースランを支えてきたスジャータが顔を見せてくれました。
We were warmly received at Kyoto City Hall by a sizeable contingent of city representatives, all of whom had started the day an hour earlier than usual in order to be able to meet with us.
市役所前の広場には、京都市の文化市民局より地域自治推進室、平和担当の方々が10数名集ってくださいました。通常業務の1時間前に出勤してのご参加に、一同感謝です。
Director General HASEGAWA Shuji, Local Autonomy Office, City of Kyoto, gave a very moving and heartfelt speech. He explained that their mission is to encourage and enhance in-person communication among numerous community groups in the city, through which peace is being promoted. Director Hasegawa also expressed his sincere wish for Sri Chinmoy's peace philosophy to spread far and wide through the activities of the Peace Run.
地域自治推進室の長谷川秀司室長が、温かく心のこもったお言葉でピースランチームを励ましてくださいます。ネット社会の中、元々たくさん存在する市内の多くの市民グループ間の、対面で心を通わせる活動を活性化したい、というのが地域自治推進室の目指しているもので、そうすることで平和が推進される。そこにピースランとの親和性がある、と。また、ピースランの礎であるシュリチンモイの平和哲学が広く浸透していくことを願う、と。

The team was thrilled and delighted to each receive a gift of local handmade pottery. They were various types of tea cups of Kiyomizu-yaki [Kiyomizu pottery ware], and were gifts from Ms. Nakadou, who runs the community group 'Think in heart'. She up-cycles Kiyomizu ware and kimono made in Kyoto's Higashiyama ward.
ピースランと同じく京都市お宝バンク登録団体であるThink in heart主宰の中堂規久子さんから、外国人メンバーへのプレゼントとして、清水焼のお湯呑みなどをいただきました。Think in heartでは、東山地区で伝統的に作られている清水焼・着物などのアップサイクルを行なっているそうです。

Kaisei Elementary and Junior high school was our next port of call. For many of us this was our first time interacting with Japanese school children. They were so sweet and so well behaved!
最初の訪問先は東山区の開睛小中学校です。今回のメンバーは日本を入れて９カ国からの多国籍チーム。内半数は初来日です。日本の子供さんとの初めての交流にワクワクドキドキです。そして、日本の生徒さんの礼儀正しさと優しさに感動。

ヒントを言って、ランナーの出身国を当てる、国当てゲームです。

最後は、花道を作って見送ってくださいました。
We were very happy to make a short visit to Mr Morio Ajiki at his fukucoffee roastery shop.
学校訪問の合間に、すぐそばのfukucoffeeというコーヒー焙煎屋さんに立ち寄ります。
Definitely worth a visit if you are in Kyoto.
Shimogyo Shosei Elementary School received us warmly. Here you can see Grahak impersonating a Kangaroo as a clue to help the children guess his country.
２校目の訪問先は、下京区にある渉成小学校です。写真は、メンバーの一人グラハックが国当てゲームのヒントにカンガルーの真似をしているところ。

Students at Nijo Junior HIgh School demonstrated their sign language skills and also prepared an excellent english quiz.
今日最後の訪問先は、二条城そばの、二条中学校。活発で明るい3年生の皆さんは、手話を交えた歌を披露してくださったり、英語で考えた学校にまつわるクイズを出題してくれ、会場は大盛り上がり！

本日最後の訪問先は、世界遺産の二条城です。京都市元離宮二条城事務所の日野貴之課長、中村亮太係長らが出迎えてくださいました。朝市役所でお会いした職員の方も何名か来てくださり、とても嬉しかったです。
