Kaikoura

Zapsal/a Daniel Rubin 25.0 km

An enormous thanks to Vic of Kaikoura Motor Inn for showing incredible generosity in denoting a fully furnished room for the team. It is always a relief to rest tired legs in a comfortable place, and the boys are very grateful for the gift of a good night's rest. It is only through the open heart of small businesses that runners are able to take time off work and visit schools with a simple message that 'peace begins with me!'

Also a big shout-out to Kaikōura New World and their manager, James, for allowing us to fill a couple of baskets with fuel and food for the runners - we picked "Tom and Luke" snack balls, coconut water and electrolytes. We really appreciate your generosity and the wide range of healthy items in store.

Our first school is at St Joseph's School in Kaikōura. Victor, on guitar, is also a teacher-aide at an intermediate school in Christchurch, showing we are not just runners, but can also carry a tune!

This artwork is titled "World Harmony" and is gifted to the students with thanks.

Tracey, a teacher at St Joseph's gives us her thoughts about the morning's event.

Kaikoura Suburban School greet us outside on a sunny morning. Students are kind and willing, holding the traveling Peace Run banner while we address the school.

The boys demonstrate a soccer skit with an invisible ball! A third player will come in and not feel included at which point students can give the thumbs down. Then the skit is re-enacted with a positive outcome as the player feels included. Students then cheer and give the thumbs up!

A reflective moment with April and the torch.

She says, 'I'm April - a teacher at Kaikōura Suburban School. We have loved having you here with us, teaching us all about your Peace Run. The kids absolutely loved it and they could not contain their excitement. I had to run with them and keep them in line! Thank-you! '

April did a magnificent job running with her class and allowed the Peace Runners to have a rest!

Mt Fyffe provided a charming setting for some post -school visit recreation. Three of the boys ran up while the author of this post walked to get this beautiful view.
