Addis Ababa

Reported by Dipavajan Renner

Welcome to Ethiopia! Our international Peace Run Team finally assembled in the capital, Addis Ababa to launch this year's African Peace Run in this ancient country.
A few visa troubles couldn't stop us (very much with the personal help of Ethiopia's runner legend Haile Gebreselassie...), and so we started our program in the first school:

..the "Young Roots English School".

..the team ready to strike....

..the kids gathered....

...and gave us a phantastic welcome!

Smiling faces everywhere! We enjoyed the enthusiasm and cheerfulness of the Ethiopian kids...

Yohannes and Eyasu tried to keep order....

...the torch was drowning several times in a sea of kids....

...its tough to sing for 400 kids without a microphone....

...a spontaneous run across the school yard ended the one-hour meeting...

..and the kids waved us good bye. If somebody asks us what's the real treasure in Ethiopia, there can be only one answer: its children! Thanks for the heartfelt welcome!

...even outside the school the smiles followed us...

...and more new friends! We spke even in German!

Torch carried by
Dipavajan Renner (Austria), Kaspars Zakis (Latvia), Pedja Knezevic (Serbia), Sead Unkic (Croatia), Yohannes Asmare (Ethiopia).
