PEACE RUN

Greece 27 September: Livadia - Lamia

in the footsteps of Leonidas

We spent a good night in the mountains near Delfi. The orakle predicted a great Peace Run day...

Back in Livadia for the start...

...a sunny morning and many athletes welcomed us...

Special thanks to the police in Livadia!

The mayor received the torch...

...and passed it on to the kids...

Thank you, Andreas!

...a very colorful group made it's way through the city of Livadia...

Great job, Eleni!

...another short meeting at the swimming pool...

...we reached the sport hall.

...children from various sport teams welcomed us...

We left Livadia behind and approached the mountains...

Tobacco fields....

A great view over Lamia after a long Run...

...lunchtime on the road...

...we found hot springs. What a great blessing for our strained muscles...

The water had the temperature of a bath tube and provided a massage as well...

...and fun, too...

We reached the Thermopylae. A statue of Leonidas I., king of Sparta, reminds of the heroic battle at the historic sight, where the Persians 480 B.C. attacked Greece with an huge army. 300 Spartans (and others) fought an unequal battle...

...one of the remains of the fortifications...

This is madness! No, this is Peace Run!

A group of local runners from the "Trahinas Running Club" awaited us at the monument.

The runners joined us all the way to Lamia - a half Marathon.

...young and old alike...

...a group of cyclists accompanied us as well...

...approaching Lamia...

...arrival in the city centre...

...the deputy mayor welcomed our team with kind words...

Thank you Lamia for the great Run!

Thank you Giannis for the great support!

Sunset in Greece...

A great dinner with our new friends ended a great running day. Thank you Makis in your restaurant with no name for the excellent food and the heartfelt welcome!
