Today the Peace Run team continued its journey, travelling from New Glasgow to Truro, carrying the torch through a full and joyful day of community connection, running, and friendship. The day featured school visits, a warm welcome at Truro City Hall, and a beautiful ceremony at Riverfront Park, where the spirit of peace and oneness was felt everywhere. The weather was immaculate. Summer has finally arrived!
The morning began in New Glasgow, where the runners gathered early for breakfast before loading the vehicles and heading out on the day’s route. We visited Walter Duggan Consolidated School first thing.
At Riverfront Park, the team paused for a brief moment of reflection at the Sri Chinmoy Peace Blossom Bridge and shared songs in a setting that reflected the beauty and calm of the day. We were grateful to be welcomed by Councillor Paul Weatherby, representing Mayor Christine Blair of the Municipality of Colchester, who reminded everyone of the importance of community service and local leadership. He held the torch and the rededication sign.
The route then continued to schools and community gatherings, where students, teachers, and staff helped create a lively and uplifting atmosphere. At each stop, the runners shared the Peace Torch, smiles, and encouragement, showing how small acts of goodwill can create lasting inspiration.
A special highlight of the day was the visit to Truro City Hall, where Mayor Cathy Hinton greeted the runners. It was inspiring to meet people who have served their communities with dedication like the mayor whose work helps make Truro and Colchester stronger, kinder places for everyone.
Three children greeted us amongst the crowd: Owen, Nora and Ethan. Awesome runners and great kids. They took us to the mouth of the school where a larger group of children joined the running for the last few hundred metres.
The day ended with the team continuing toward Ecole acadienne de Truro It was a meaningful afternoon of running, meeting, and uplifting the community through the simple but powerful message of peace.
