Mahone Bay - Liverpool

Reported by Brahmata Michael 38.0 km

In the early morning sun, the charming town of Mahone Bay was even more magical! The team extends our gratitude to Miller House by the Bay for the excellent accommodation.

The first team lit the torch and got ready to run.

We took a quiet moment together before all the action.

Margaret Miller even came out to see the team off with warm hugs and well wishes.

Even more Mahone Bay hospitality! Our two team members from Halifax were very kindly accommodated for free at the home of Jennifer Wilson. We met Jennifer through our Scottish Peace Run team member, Shyamala. It's a small world.

Figuring out the directions before the runner takes off is an essential part of the Peace Run!

Our van mascot keeps us company throughout the journey... this kiwi bird came all the way from New Zealand.

We ran through beautiful Bridgewater.

Then we ran through Hebbville.

The team ran into Hebbville Academy to the cheers of the students.

Elspeth McLean-Wile, Mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, warmly welcomed the team.

She presented each team member with a gift bag including a town pin, sunglasses and a water bottle.

Her kindness and dedication to her district was obvious even after our short meeting.

Principal Jeff Sylvester held the torch and received a certificate of appreciation.

A brief group run through Liverpool before saying "goodbye for now" to our team members from Halifax, Heather and Sarita.

The team ran into Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy in Liverpool.

Scott Christian, Mayor of Region of Queens Municipality, greeted us outside of the school. He and Brahmata bonded over both being born in 1987- the year the Peace Run was founded.

Mayor Scott was really in tune with the philosophy behind the Peace Run having a background in human rights and studying at University for Peace (Universidad para la Paz) in Costa Rica.

He addressed the students; "Peace isn't about just the absence of violence, peace is about supporting each other and living in harmony with each other... Peace starts with each and every one of you. So if we look for those opportunities to help each other out and to live in harmony with one another. That's what can make this world a peaceful place."

We all went to the school yard for a run. Some of the students were extremely fast!

A lot of students had prepared peace-themed artwork.

The team always loves to see these creations and we always wish we had more time to carefully look at each one.

The staff and students at the school built a wigwam under the guidance of Mi'kmaw Elder Todd Labrador, his family and other members of the Mi'kmaq community.

Karnayati, the co-director of the Canadian Peace Run, celebrated her birthday today! It was so special that she could be with the team on this day. The run this year would not be able to happen without her broad mind, wide heart and countless hours of dedicated volunteer work.

The team had a great meal out and Karnayati kindly treated everyone in honour of her birthday.
