Austria 29 May: Eisenkappel - Castle Hochosterwitz

welcome to Carinthia/Austria

Welcome to Austria! The flaming torch arrived from Slovenia and brave runners from both countries carried the torch up to the "Seebergsattel" mountain pass.
A big hand to our Slovenian runners for conquering the uphill!

...the deputy mayor of Eisenkappel welcomed our team...

Thank you Eisenkappel for the hospitality!

..we took a side-trip to the 3-country corner between Austria, Slovenia and Italy. It is located on the top of a mountain: a nice hike through the dense forest...

...we reached the top: the border is named a "Sri Chinmoy Peace Blossom", joining a family of many landmarks, cities and special locations dedicated to Peace...

...a great view...

...we started our run with a visit to the local primary and secondary school\ in Eisenkappel...

...all the kids gathered outside...

...we didn't sing that bad?

...a spontaneous run on the main road...

Thank you Eisenkappel for the fun!

...soon we arrived in Sittersdorf...

...two local "torch bearers" approached our team...

...the primary school in Sittersdorf is an excellent musical school! The kids performed in an outstanding way for us!

Thank you Sittersdorf for the heartfelt meeting!

Eberndorf was next: the kids from the primary school lined up for the torch....

...another musical performance! Carinthia is a truly musical place. All the people love music...

...a "school-stampede"...

Thank you Eberndorf for the great welcome!

...the kids joined us on our way out...

...a final picture...

...our last school of the day: Kühnsdorf. Some of the older students met us on the road and carried the torch into their school...

..."High Five" as a welcome by students from the primary and the secondary school!

Thank you Kühnsdorf for the warm welcome!

...back on the road...

...we crossed the river "Drau"...

...we approached the biggest fortress in Europe: castle "Burg Hochosterwitz"...

...a very impressive sight...

...the commander of the guard welcomed us at the first of 14 gates....

...and we got a most interesting tour through the castle...

...history was omnipresent...

Thank you "Burg Hochosterwitz" for the great visit!

...running out...

...as we approached St. Georgen / Längsee, the representative of Launsdorf welcomed us...

...a final picture at the "Hotel Fasching". Thank you for the nice accommodation!
