Port Hedland, WA - Pardoo Roadhouse, WA

Reported by Atulya Berube, Tamas Kopriva-Biro, Teekhnata Metzler 150.0 km

We had a lovely night at The Landing. They housed us and fed us all meals. We slept in beds and ate like kings. What luxury for a humble peace runner!

We set off today, rested with bellies full.

We welcomed Raquel, a new team member from Portugal. She’s being eased in nicely with a low kilometre day.

Today, being Saturday, schools are closed and there is nothing on our schedule except the running.

I (Teekhnata) have been assigned to write the report, so I await something to happen about which to write.

This is a good opportunity to take note of the small, ordinarily imperceptible gifts that daily show up but I am usually too busy or preoccupied to notice.

Atulya suggested last night that we could each do a 2 mile race as part of our individual runs today. He was met with silence and subtle frowns. But, being his wife, I decided to support his idea today. I’m hoping to get some payback in the future. That’s how marriage works. I put more physical effort into 2 miles today than I have in months. It was not pretty and I have excuses for being so slow. Of course, the heat played a role. I also don’t usually race holding a torch. And, I don’t weave on and off the road to avoid what are called road trains (for Americans, they’re like a semi truck pulling 4 or 5 containers.) Phew, that does make me feel better about my time!

Dhavala decided to race as well. She did better than her goal so I guess she is not affected by these factors. Sheesh, now I feel slow again.

Stacey got inspired as well. The 2 of us are pretty close in time and battle it out when we race. She knows my time and she’s out on the road right now trying to beat it.

Stay tuned!

Ooof, she bested me by 5 seconds! Good job Stacey!

Emily was the fastest of our bunch, making it look easy with her graceful stride.

Some creative Go Pro work.

Same.

We’re on a long straight road. It’s hot. I’d say very hot, but have been warned that hotter is coming so I have to leave room to describe what that might feel like. Perhaps, scorching or volcanic might be useful terms in the future.

We’ve ended the day at the Pardoo Station Homestead. They have very generously offered every runner their own en suite room along with meals.

We are so grateful for their hospitality. What a rare gift for each peace runner to get a little restful, private “me time” if needed. Talk about luxury!!!

Rest well all! See you tomorrow. :-)
