Salil Wilson, the Executive Director of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, has created a new event and adventure, called the Sri Chinmoy Peace Ride.

In describing this new event, Salil explains, "We are thrilled to embark for the first time on a bike ride across the United States. Starting in Seattle and finishing in New York we will ride 4,000 miles through 11 states for peace.
Everyone is welcome to meet us! Hold the torch and share your hopes and dreams for peace!"

Last week Salil and his bicycle flew from New York City across the country to Seattle, Washington. It took about 6 hours. It will now take him and his riding partner, Rasmivan Collinson, from Great Britain, about two and a half months to cycle back to New York City from Seattle.

After a long flight with his bicycle packed in a box for the flight, Salil had to assemble his bike and set it up for the long ride back to New York sharing the message of peace to all those who they are about to meet and greet.

Rasmivan, from Bristol, in the U.K., is purchasing a good quality bike at Gregg's Cycle shop, a long time fixture in the Seattle cycling world, which has been in business for about 90 years!

Ready to go with a new bike and all the gear for life 'on the road.'

The Burke Gilman trail in Seattle and beyond is a mecca for cyclists and pedestrians which offers a safe and scenic way to see many wonderful sites in the Seattle and in the beautiful nature along the way.

Along the trail in Seattle they visited the Statue of Sri Chinmoy, Founder of the Peace Run and of many other events promoting peace and friendship in a spirit of oneness and goodwill for people of all diverse backgrounds and faiths.

This Sri Chinmoy Statue location will also be starting point for this cross country ride tomorrow, Saturday, May 24.

Another famous site in the city of Seattle is the Space Needle, in the background. At 605 feet tall, the landmark was constructed to symbolize humanity’s Space Age aspirations, and since its grand opening on April 21, 1962, continues to represent the innovative and forward-thinking spirit of Seattle.

The tower’s 520’ saucer-shaped “top house” offers visitors Seattle’s only 360-degree indoor and outdoor panoramic views of downtown, Mount Rainier, Puget Sound, and the Cascades and Olympic mountain ranges.

Another one of the stops along their practice ride was the Sri Chinmoy Peace Grove at Green Lake, a very popular location for runners, walkers, cyclists, swimmers as well as other athletic and social events. Rasmivan stops at the grove where a bench and plaque along with a number os beautiful trees are dedicated to Sri Chinmoy, Founder of the Peace Run and creator of many other events and initiatives to share and inspire peace and goodwill around the world.

They also stopped along the way to visit the best laundromat in Seattle called ' Transformation Surprise.' Dan, one of the main workers, offers his smiles and goodwill to his two adventurous friends.

Salil and Rasmivan head our for a test ride north to the beautiful town of Edmonds to visit a good friend, Aparajita.

Their scenic ride will take them past the vast and beautiful Lake Washington on their first day tomorrow.

A scenic view of the Peugot Sound and the impressive Olympic Mountain Range in the distance, from Aparajita's home in Edmonds, where they were kindly treated to lunch.

Salil and Rasmivan enjoy a delicious meal at an Italian restaurant in Seattle with some local friends and supporters. A good way to 'carbo load' for the long miles ahead while enjoying the support and goodwill of friends.

No matter how fast or how slowly they may travel each day, the following poem, and song, should inspire them to reach their lofty goals along the way:

I Bicycle at Speed High

"I bicycle at speed high.
Not with wings but with legs I fly.
The journey's dawn and the journey's end
Treasure me as their oneness-friend."

Words and music by Sri Chinmoy June 1979.

Torch carried by
Rasmivan Collinson (Great Britain), Salil Wilson (Australia).
